Career management is not just about choosing a course of study; it is a continuous process that lasts a lifetime. Career management is important not only for addressing existential issues, but also for reducing self-doubt, better preparing for the demands of the labour market, setting clearer goals, and increasing the chances of success at work. Today, young people in Croatia seek a balance between meaningful work and personal development, which should be considered when planning their future careers. Employability refers to a person’s ability to find and keep a job, as well as to progress within it. The term goes beyond simply having a degree or specific knowledge; it encompasses all the skills, competencies, and characteristics that make someone attractive in today’s labour market, which is marked by a high level of change and uncertainty.
“Employability is the set of skills, knowledge and attitudes that enhance an employee’s ability to secure and retain employment, progress through and cope with change, secure another job if desired or needed, and facilitate entry into the labour market at different stages of the life cycle.” International Labour Organisation (ILO), 2013
Career management includes processes of self-reflection on one’s interests, skills and values, self-assessment of skills and competences, researching available study programmes at the University (and beyond), assessing opportunities in the labour market, setting goals, and planning opportunities to gain the necessary experience.
