Do you need support from another person when moving around, handling administrative procedures, or performing everyday activities?
By studying at the University of Rijeka, you have the opportunity to receive the support you need, with the aim of equalising opportunities and enabling you to fulfil your study obligations and function as independently as possible during your academic journey.
Peer support activities are provided by your fellow students and are not a substitute for personal assistance or care.
Find out what it means to have a student assistant and how to access this support below.
Student assistants
Student assistants provide direct support according to the pre-defined individual needs of students who require such assistance.
Support may include, for example:
- arriving at or departing from the faculty,
- moving around the faculty,
- handling administrative procedures, purchasing literature, and photocopying,
- ordering meals in the student cafeteria, purchasing groceries, etc.
To apply for a student assistant, contact prilagodbe@uniri.hr during September for the winter semester or during February for the summer semester of each academic year
How to become a student assistant?
Each academic year, the University Counselling Centre seeks students to provide peer support to students with disabilities at the University of Rijeka’s constituent units.
With the help of STUDENT ASSISTANTS, students with disabilities can overcome organisational, spatial, and administrative obstacles that exist in the higher education system in the Republic of Croatia.
The role of a student assistant is a paid position.

"It is generally beneficial for students to help each other, and through the student assistant programme, students become aware of the needs of others and vice versa."

Student Mentors
In addition to a student assistant, you also have the option of having a student mentor.
Student mentors are senior students at all faculties of the University of Rijeka who help students (most often first-year students) of the same study programme in adapting to studies and student life. The support is defined according to your individual needs, but is usually provided in the winter semester of the first year of study, when help is most needed in navigating the faculty building, offering advice on studies, communicating with teachers, and obtaining useful information for students studying away from home.
To request a student mentor, please contact your faculty directly or email prilagodbe@uniri.hr.
